In this video, Parker and John are planting a UNS Reef System R150 Peninsula, continuing the transformation of this limited-edition rimless reef tank into a nature style planted aquascape.

With the hardscape and plumbing complete, the focus shifts to planting. We’ll walk through how the planting areas were designed for a peninsula aquarium, including the placement of taller lilies and stem plants, midground transitions, foreground aquatic plants, and detailed epiphytes such as Anubias Pinto.

The planting uses a wide range of colors, textures, and growth forms, including Rotala, Limnophila, Ludwigia, Mayaca, Cyperus Helferi, Hydrocotyle, Monte Carlo, Helanthium Tenellum, and Umbrella Hair Grass. We’ll also cover planting techniques for bulbs and delicate plants, how to create height and transitions between planting areas, and why flow around the roots can matter as plants establish.

Once planting is finished, we’ll review the full freshwater aquascape, including aquarium lighting, CO2 accessories, and more.

On day 3 of this UNS Reef System R150 Peninsula build, Parker and John move on from hardscaping to plumbing.

After taking the time to fine-tune the hardscape for a tank that will be viewed from three sides, we reveal the finished layout before getting into the plumbing. We’ll walk through the installation of the main drain, emergency drain, and return plumbing, while covering the proper placement of bulkheads, gaskets, O-rings, unions, and valves along the way.

With the plumbing in place, the tank is one step closer to becoming a massive freshwater aquascape. Next, we’ll move on to planting, lighting, equipment, and setting up the sump and refugium.

In this video, Parker and John take on one of their biggest aquascaping projects yet. The tank is a limited-edition Ultum Nature Systems Reef System R150 Peninsula-style aquarium, originally designed to be a marine tank that we’re transforming into a massive freshwater display.

From selecting oversized pieces of Ghost Wood to building the nature-style aquarium layout, locking the hardscape into place, and creating separate planting areas with Controbase, Controsoil, and Controsand, this video covers the entire hardscape and substrate process.

We’ll also take a closer look at what makes this reef system with a built-in sump unique, including its clear silicone, overflow, plumbing, and three-sided viewing design.

In the next video, we’ll tackle the plumbing and filtration before moving on to planting.

In this video, we take on a Dutch-style aquarium in a UNS 60U.

While Dutch style aquascapes are known for their structured layouts, vibrant colors, and careful plant selection, this build is all about experimenting with aquatic plant combinations, textures, and growth patterns. Follow along as John breaks down the thought process behind choosing each species, creating color contrast, and layering plants from foreground to background.

This aquascape features a variety of colorful stem plants including Alternanthera Reineckii Mini, Staurogyne Repens, Rotala varieties, Ludwigia, Limnophila Aromatica Mini, Mayaca, and Monte Carlo. From planting techniques to preparing stems for long-term growth, we share the details behind creating a dense, balanced planted tank.

In this video, Parker and John each build a unique aquascape inside the UNS 60U 20-gallon aquarium. Parker takes a more traditional route using Spiderwood and Rhino Stone to create a clean, natural hardscape layout, while John sets up his UNS Terrace as a base for a stem plant background with Dutch-inspired planting.

Although these tanks won't be planted in this episode, this is just the beginning. Stay tuned to see John's Terrace layout completed in a future video!
